BASF appoints new IS head for AP

New technology head brought in from BASF IT Services in Germany.

Chemicals giant BASF has appointed Dirk Ramhorst as vice president of information services for the Asia Pacific region.

Based in Singapore, Ramhorst succeeds Stefan Beck, who is assuming responsibility for the Business Management Unit of BASF IT Services, based in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Ramhorst first joined BASF IT Services as director in 2008, and was vice president of business solutions at BASF IT Services in Germany.

BASF is a long-time SAP customer and is one of the first users of SAP's HANA (High-Performance Analytic Appliance) in-memory computing engine. HANA places data to be processed in RAM, versus reading it off disks, which provides a performance boost. News agency Bloomberg reported that BASF has been able to analyse commodity sales 120 times faster with HANA.
